Ian Dexter Crawford is originally from northern NY State. He grew up in Lake George, a small town with an equally small school that, thankfully, offered a very strong music programme. If you’ve scrolled through any of the additional pages on this site, it may be a surprise that InDex (formally InDex-The-Kid) started out on trumpet. He stayed in the horn section for 10 years while in school and through participating in regional music festivals. In parallel he was exploring what he could get up to with percussion and some ukulele and three-string guitar on the side.

Since those school days he has been based out of Ottawa (Canada), Seattle (Washington) and Brooklyn (good ol’ NY). While mainly contributing on the drum set to various bands (you’ll see recordings of his work with Aromatics and Djime on these pages), he is a prolific multi-instrumental composer of original music and lyrics. A smattering of his original compositions can be found in the audio section. Un-documented here is proof of Ian working up a series of synths, and backing-up Rosa Tu (vocals) throughout the greater NYC area.
